Kim Jong Un Watches South Korean K-Pop Performance In Pyongyang

Last week, Kim made his first overseas trip as leader to Beijing for talks with Chinese President Xi Jin Ping, ahead of an inter-Korean summit, slated for April 27. It provided #Kim Jong-un and his wife Ri Sol Ju an opportunity to enjoy the evening with South Korean singers and performers who had come to Pyongyang.

The performance coincided with the beginning of annual joint South Korean-U.S. military drills, which have previously been met with denunciations and missile launches by the North.

“The mood was exceptionally good when that song was performed, and I’m told that it is one of the most popular Southern songs here”, Yoon told South Korean reporters covering the art troupe in Pyongyang late Monday at the Koryo Hotel.

The occasion marks the first inter-Korean taekwondo performance in Pyongyang, Yonhap reported. This includes music, soap operas, and movies.

Tension over North Korea’s tests of nuclear weapons and ballistic missile surged past year and raised fears of US military action in response to North Korea’s threat to develop a nuclear weapon capable of hitting the United States.

Mentioning the performance’s title “Spring comes”, Kim also asked the performers to tell South Korean President Moon Jae-in that the two Koreas should hold a similar event in Seoul in the autumn, the pool reports said, citing an unidentified South Korean performer.

“Bolton ” would have a very big role in organizing and orchestrating what’s talked about, ” according to Cha, and ” he will allow this summit to take place but really be focused on not taking the pressure off in terms of sanctions”. The snap shows Red Velvet members standing by the side of Kim.

Kim had been planning to attend the Tuesday performance but made a decision to watch Sunday’s show due to “political schedules”, KCNA and South Korean officials there said. Kim is expected to meet Moon later this month, and many expect him to meet President Donald Trump as well. The two hour performance was watched by Kim, his wife, his sister, North Korean officials, and a crowd of over 1,000 people.

A sector expert, Cho is taken into consideration among one of the most prominent figures in South Korea’s songs scene.

“There had been interests in whether I would come and see Red Velvet”, Kim was quoted as saying.

The Korean Peninsula has seen increased diplomacy between North Korea and South Korea in recent months, and Sunday evening was no exception.

One Korean netizen commented: “They should’ve just kept it at “it was a great opportunity”… of course they’re getting criticized now because they said it was an ‘honour” too’.

The five-member girl group performed their hits “Bad Boy” and “Red Flavor” in front of North Korean citizens.

Despite the North’s isolation and strict curbs on unauthorized foreign culture, backed up by prison terms, K-pop has become increasingly popular there, thanks to flash drives smuggled across the border with its neighbor China.

“With “Nukes ‘R Us” street cred established a year ago, Kim seeks to routinize summit meetings with Moon, Abe, Trump, Xi, Putin, etc., and thereby be accepted as a legitimate leader of a nuclear nation”, said Lee. “So that gave us strength”, said Kang Seul-gi, another Red Velvet singer, who performs under the name Selgui.
