Kim Young Sam: South Korean president ended years of military rule
The chief of Seoul National University Hospital, Oh Byung-hee, said that Kim died there early yesterday. A South Korean hospital official says Kim Young-sam has died.

North Korea on Tuesday bitterly criticized the South for staging a live-fire drill near their disputed sea border, hinting it may respond to Seoul’s “confrontation” just days before the rivals were due to hold talks created to improved relations. He opposed the country’s military dictators for many years of time & laid the inspiration for a peaceful power convey as president.
A spokesman for the regime’s southwestern military unit said South Korea is scheming to attack North Korean waters again.
North Korea was angered by this accusation when it was first added to the draft resolution past year, as officials apparently feared that the country’s supreme leader Kim Jong Un could be held responsible.
As a key opposition figure, Kim first sought the presidency in 1987, in South Korea’s first free, direct presidential election.
For his part in the pro-democracy movement, he was placed under house arrest twice in the 1980s.
For decades, Kim fought against military rulers and pushed for democratic reform.
He had Chun and another military ex-president indicted on mutiny, treason and corruption charges stemming from a coup, and they were convicted and sent to prison.
Finally elected in 1993, Mr Kim became only the third civilian leader of South Korea and the first since 1961. Chun and Roh were later pardoned during a national unity campaign.
He also accepted a massive worldwide bailout during the 1997-1998 Asian financial crisis.
He was elected as the President of South Korea at the age of 26 in the year 1992.

Kim was born into a rich fishing family in 1927 when the country was still under Japanese colonial rule. During the Korean War, he anchored a defense ministry’s propaganda radio program, Yonhap reported. A few months later, he broke with the party over a constitutional revision and joined the opposition party. He leaves his wife, two sons and three daughters.
