King ‘Kong’ Is Coming ‘Straight Outta Compton’

While plot details are still vague, the story will be set in the mysterious, unsafe home of the king of the apes as a team of explorers ventures deep inside the island. It’s also great that he will have the opportunity to reunite with Corey Hawkins in Kong: Skull Island – though, of course, there’s no confirmation at this point that they will actually get to share scenes together.

Directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts (“The Kings of Summer“), the film also stars Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson.

Just a few weeks after Corey Hawkins, who played Dr. Dre in COMPTON, was cast in KONG: SKULL ISLAND, his COMPTON co-star Jason Mitchell (who played Eazy E) has entered negotiations to join the giant creature feature in the role of a pilot. The film has grossed $114 million since its August. 14 premiere. The actor has made a career out of minor roles for at least the last four years, appearing alongside Mark Wahlberg in “Contraband” and “Broken City“. The film will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D by Universal Pictures March 10, 2017.

Mitchell is now shooting Keanu, the New Line comedy from Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, and will be seen in the indie Vincent-n-Roxxy with Emile Hirsch and Zoe Kravitz. Thomas Tull (Godzilla, The Dark Knight, Pacific Rim) and Jon Jashni (Godzilla, Warcraft) will produce and Alex Garcia (Godzilla) will executive produce.
