The Kings agreed to a four-year, $32 million contract with free-agent center Kosta Koufos, a league source confirmed Saturday night.

That – and the fact he is popular with teammates, including DeMarcus Cousins was enough to keep him in the fold.

In 424 career National Basteball Association games, Koufos has average 5.4 points and 5.3 rebounds.

Koufos played in Memphis the last two seasons with the Grizzlies, playing a reserve role to back up big men Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol. The Kings drafted Kentucky center Willie Cauley-Stein with the sixth pick of the 2015 draft, however, and there are reports of the Kings planning to deploy Rudy Gay more often as a power forward.

Sacramento has missed the playoffs nine straight seasons and is still trying to come together under Karl, who took over at the All-Star break after Tyrone Corbin and Michael Malone were fired a few months apart. Koufos will have a player option on the fourth year. He spent the last two seasons with Memphis. The Kings brought in Marco Belinelli and Omri Cassipi to provide outside shooting and they will join Ben McLemore and Darren Collison, two more quality marksmen.

Memphis Grizzlies may be willing to sign and trade Kosta Koufos
