The candidate’s callous remarks have been condemned by many, including Republican politicians and other Gold Star families who called on him to apologize.

Trump’s stunning slap at two of the nation’s most prominent Republicans dramatically escalated GOP turmoil barely a week after a convention meant to promote party unity.

The way Trump responded to the Khans surely kept the story in the public eye as well, while Hillary Clinton’s response to Smith was much more restrained.

Trump discussed voter ID during an interview Tuesday on Fox News Channel’s “The O’Reilly Factor”.

Khan, whose son Humayun was killed in Iraq in 2004, spoke on the closing night of the Democratic National Convention.

None did so publicly and aides to both Ryan and Ayotte made clear their plans hadn’t changed.

The identities of the individuals Trump met with were not known.

The Military Times reported about Trump’s meeting with Gold Star families, providing more details of the roughly 30-minute meeting. Not surprisingly, 93 percent of Democrats said Trump’s comments were out of bounds; 63 percent of independent voters agreed.

Donald Trump rejected a Muslim lawyer’s assertion on the Democratic convention stage that the Republican nominee has “sacrificed nothing and no one”.
