A home reportedly exploded in Kitsap County Tuesday morning.
Authorities led by a cadaver dog were searching for two residents who may have been trapped inside the home, which also caught fire after the explosion, Wilson said.
The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the fatalities after rescue crews spent hours at the site.
Investigators do not believe a crime was committed but are still working to determine the cause of the explosion.
The explosion happened in the 3500 block of Soholt Lane near Port Orchard shortly after 4 a.m. Tuesday. What caused the explosion is unknown.
Sheriff’s spokesman Scott Wilson told The Seattle Times (http://is.gd/BRwdgr ) hundreds of calls came into the dispatch center reporting a loud, forceful explosion.
Local media said some area residents thought they were witnessing an natural disaster.
Fire officials said they have requested an assistant from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to help with the investigation.
Officials say the explosion was felt miles away.
The force of the blast caused windows to shatter at nearby Mullenix Ridge Elementary School.

He said there have been reports of collateral damage to homes in the area.
