Kiwi Dixon captures another Watkins Glen win
Power crashed in the 39th lap of the IndyCar Grand Prix at Watkins Glen International and was not allowed to return to the race because of concussion symptons. Unfortunately, Dixon was still eliminated from a chance at a second championship in three years.

First-time fans say they were thoroughly impressed with the Glen.
It’s his 40th victory overall, moving the New Zealander into fourth place on the career list. Michael Andretti still sits in third with 42 victories.
Dixon recorded the quickest times in all of the three practice sessions before the race. Scott Dixon broke the track record. He is now 43 points behind Pagenaud heading into the final race in two weeks. Really, the only thing Scott Dixon didn’t do, was complete the event’s fastest lap. At the end, the victor’s margin of victory was a staggering 16 seconds.
Castronves said the cautions stymied his run, so his team took the strategy of pitting for fuel but no tires to gain track position and then turned up the pace to try to catch Dixon.
Dixon announced he was donating his winnings to the family of Justin Wilson, who died in August 2015 after being struck in the head by debris during a race at Pocono. “We were actually battling for second going into the Bus Stop with Will”. This auto could really roll through the corners. “I’ll definitely remember this one”. Helio Castroneves took the last spot on the podium in third. Josef Newgarden was second, followed by Helio Castroneves, Conor Daly, and Sebastien Bourdais.
Simon Pagenaud improved his lead over Will Power with his seventh place output.
Kimball had a run on Power for 14 place when they came together at the top of the hill.
Dixon and his No.9 Target Chip Ganassi Racing IndyCar was the fastest vehicle on the track when speed was needed and then late in the race while other’s were running out of fuel, Dixon and his racer were able to get the most mileage out of what little fuel was left in the auto.
Will Power wrecked in the middle of the contest and finished in 20th. After being checked out at IndyCar Medical, it was determined he suffered concussion-like symptoms.
Power’s auto was nudged by Charlie Kimball’s Ganassi-Chevrolet into a side impact with the barrier at the top of the 150mph Esses on Lap 39 of the IndyCar race today at Watkins Glen International. They made wheel contact. As a result, he sent Power hard into the outside blockade. Rahal tried to drive on the inside of Charlie Kimball coming out of turn 1 on Lap 20. Rookie Max Chilton qualified sixth and finished 10th, and Charlie Kimball finished sixth despite on-track incidents with Graham Rahal and Will Power.
That all changed literally overnight when the scheduled race in Boston, set for this weekend, was cancelled and Printup negotiated a fast deal in May with IndyCar president of competition and operations Jay Frye for The Glen to replace Boston on the schedule. Rahal was trying to pass on the inside, but Kimball ran over the curbing, kicking his vehicle right and causing the wheel contact. “It’s just a shame”. But today, after it bit us pretty good in Toronto, it was a nice way to turn it around. We were able to move up.
“I tried to chase him down and manage the guys behind us”, Newgarden said after overcoming a practice crash that limited his progress into qualifying. “I just hope Will is all right because I want to take this fight to Sonoma”. “I should know better”.
Scott Dixon was in a league of his own at Watkins Glen International. The average speed around the 3.4 mile, winding road course was 119.334 miles per hour. He moved out to a six-second lead, under green by lap 27.
