KL Rahul, Evin Lewis make huge gains in latest T20 rankings

The West Indies drew first blood in the two-match Twenty20 global series, winning a record high-scoring match by a single run after Dwayne Bravo outwitted India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni with the final ball of a thrilling contest.

West Indies opener Evin Lewis says his knowledge of the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium pitch played a key role in his maiden Twenty20 global hundred against India here Saturday.

Lokesh Rahul then crashed 110 in 51 balls as India went close to reaching their target, sending the large pro-Indian crowd into a frenzy.

India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and elected to field in the second Twenty20 clash against West Indies on Sunday as his team looked to recover from their dramatic one-run defeat the previous day.

West Indies´ total of 245-6 was just short of Australia´s 248 against England in Southampton in 2013 while Sri Lanka´s 260 against Kenya at Johannesburg in 2007 remains the highest ever global T20 total.

Charles, however, continued his excellent form, finishing with 25-ball 43, which was the highest score for his side.

It was the fifth fastest T20I century.

The Indians will be more than happy to see hitman Rohit Sharma back among runs. Rahane’s dismissal brought Virat Kohli who impressed with a few glorious boundaries got out to Dwayne Bravo.

Rahul hit Narine for a six and two fours to take 16 runs from the sixth over while Rohit hit two sixes to steal the same 16 runs off the eighth over as the Indians scored at 12 runs an over to reach 100 in 8.3 overs.

Lauderhill: The second T20I between India and West Indies has been called off due to wet outfield and as a result of this, West Indies win the series 1-0. He put on 126 for the first wicket with Johnson Charles who made 79.

The West Indies will want to seal the series while India will be hoping to draw level in the USA. Mohammad Shami, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravi Ashwin picked two wickets each while Bhuvneshwar Kumar chipped in with a wicket.

Andre Russell (22) and Kieron Pollard (22) added late cameos in Carlos Brathwaite’s first game as skipper.

“That was the plan and we just kept hitting well”. Lewis nearly managed another first, when hitting five sixes off the first five balls of the 11th over off the bowling of Stuart Binny, only to have to settle for a single off the final ball.

It was also the first the time in T-20 history that two batsmen scored hundreds in one match.

West Indies crawled past the 100-run mark in the 14th over; on Saturday, they were into three figures in the eighth.
