Klopp: breaks glasses in ’emotional’ win

Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp celebrated wildly with his players after the final whistle and his glasses were accidentally knocked off by Christian Benteke in the melee. “But set play, set play, set play, and they got more confidence”.

Adam Lallana’s stoppage-time goal sealed a 5-4 victory over Norwich City but Liverpool’s set-piece woes continued at Carrow Road.

Alberto Moreno conceded a needless foul on Naismith to allow Wes Hoolahan give the hosts a two-goal cushion, but Henderson, Firmino and Milner turned the game on its head. I think it is a new record but we have to solve our problems because this will not always be possible. “It’s really hard looking for glasses without glasses”. “Everyone is talking about it, we are thinking about it, (and) you are seeing the situation of course”.

Naismith scored his first Everton goal against Liverpool and, on his Norwich debut following his move from Goodison Park, the Scot struck again to give the Canaries a 2-1 halftime lead. “It makes me sound insane, but it was – the first ball we defended better”.

Dieumerci Mbokani had cancelled out Roberto Firmino’s opener with a brilliant back-heel before Steven Naismith put Norwich 2-1 up at half-time.

What makes it even more frustrating is the fact the defence does a good job of limiting danger from open play, as Klopp touched upon, per Matchett: “Watch our games and you can see it’s not easy to create chances against us”.

“But 70, 80pc of the game we played football and that’s what you have to do”.

Klopp’s relief was so overwhelming that he laughed off having his glasses broken in the celebrations following Lallana’s goal. I know a lot of strikers that are one-metre-60-plus [5ft 3in] in height.

Parity was restored with over a quarter of the game still remaining, as Lallana got in behind the very advanced Norwich back-line and centred for Firmino, who took a neat touch and side-footed the ball home.

“But what will be a real worry is the amount of goals they concede”. I’ve had a few games in my life similar to this, but not with a happy ending.

“At the end we can be really happy with everything, almost everything, especially with the three points”, Klopp said.

Aguero’s second goal prevented West Ham from knocking Manchester United out of the top five, but there was little for under-fire United manager Louis van Gaal to cheer after his side were booed off at Old Trafford.

“I said: “Come on, do what you want, but if you lose today, we’re flying flags [at half-mast]”.
