Klopp defends decision to bench Sturridge
Jurgen Klopp insisted Liverpool missed the opportunity to secure a second Premier League victory of the season after drawing 1-1 with Tottenham at White Hart Lane.

Erik Lamela clipped Roberto Firmino in the box, with referee Bobby Madley pointing to the spot with James Milner duly stepping up to convert.
The England global looked displeased on the bench and came on in the dying stages of the 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane on Saturday.
Tottenham has five points from three games, one more point than a Liverpool side that has played all of its matches away from home while the club completes the rebuilding of the Main Stand at Anfield.
Klopp admitted that his side must “accept” what happened and that they “made one mistake in and around their goal” while Mignolet also made “a wonderful save” to deny Toby Alderweireld’s header at a corner.
Eventually the Reds would score in the 43rd minute but it was less about Spurs’ awful defense (even though it was quite bad) and more about referee Bobby Madley calling a soft foul on Érik Lamela.
“I saw Spurs as being a very good fit for me – but we were unable to agree financial terms with them. With hindsight, though, that was not a disaster”.
“I wish we could have won it”.
When told Adam Lallana was not offside for Mane’s goal, Klopp replied: “Oh my God!”
Christian Eriksen saw a free-kick beaten away by Simon Mignolet and Dele Alli sliced a promising opening wide from 18 yards out as Spurs continued to look the more unsafe early on.
“Ultimately, we’re disappointed”, Milner said.
– Harry Kane has played 10 Premier League games in the month of August without scoring a goal.
“It’s true the first half was better for Liverpool, but in the second half we played, not well, but better, we competed”.
Kyle Walker was replaced by Vincent Janssen in the 28th minute due to feeling unwell and it was possibly the full-back’s illness that meant Coutinho was left unmarked at the far post, with Vorm again coming to the rescue.

“I think it’s a good signal that he didn’t score yet”, said the Argentine. Both teams needed a little bit more than they were able to produce to achieve a win.
