Klopp ‘doesn’t feel too brilliant’ after Liverpool draw

Jurgen Klopp was “disappointed” that his side couldn’t take all three points at White Hart Lane as Danny Rose’s late equaliser cost Liverpool two points.

Liverpool were the better side for the majority of the encounter at White Hart Lane and took the lead through James Milner’s penalty.

“We need time, maybe a few months to put all [the players] in the same level”. As long as we keep performing and doing the right things, and don’t get impatient with it, I’m sure more results will come.

There were certainly plus points for Pochettino and Klopp to take from this encounter, but both managers will know there is still room for improvement. “The effort and the character we showed today were fantastic. Whatever I say now won’t change the result”.

It was a frustrating outcome for visiting manager Jürgen Klopp on his return to the scene of his first game at the Liverpool helm last October, which ended in a 0-0 draw. His side showed a much sharper cutting edge than in last weekend’s 2-0 defeat at Burnley, but their inability to close the game out enabled Spurs to rescue a point. “They scored the goal and could have won too”. When we play like this, we could have won the game.

“We played well in the first half but didn’t do enough in the second half”.

“Against Tottenham it is not a game you win four, five goals – they are a really good defending team, play long together, play good together, it’s really hard to create one chance”.

Goalkeeper Michel Vorm, standing in for the injured Hugo Lloris, saved brilliantly from Philippe Coutinho inside the box before Joel Matip glanced a header off the bar.

Coutinho had overcome a stiff hamstring to start and he continually found space in threatening positions, with one shot deflected over and another comfortably parried by Vorm at his near post.

Spurs lost full-back Kyle Walker to illness early in the game, prompting Pochettino to introduce striker Vincent Janssen and move Eric Dier from midfield to defence. Milner, in for Alberto Moreno at left-back for the second time this season, confidently steered the penalty into the bottom-left corner.

Tottenham Hotspur came from behind to get a draw with the Reds, despite being outplayed by their opponents for large periods of the game, especially in the first half. But as the intensity of the visitors’ pressing began to fade, so Spurs started to assert themselves. But he went with Origi first, not introducing Sturridge until the 87th minute. “We made one mistake in and around the goal for their goal”, Klopp said.
