Liverpool are set to add another defender in their ranks following the signing of Stephen Caulker on loan yesterday.
Matip has been attached with Schalke since he was nine years old, but he is now eager to face new challenges in his career. The club’s defensive injury crisis put any pre-contract discussions on the back burner, but having brought in Caulker for now, negotiations to bring Matip in this summer were quickly concluded.
It is reproted that the highly-rated centre-back has already agreed a deal in principle. It looked a shrewd bit of business when rumours of Liverpool interest in the pending free agent first surfaced late in December, and it continues to look a shrewd bit of business today.
Those of you using the likes of Skrtel and Sakho in your squad should be very interested to see how Matip handles himself in comparison.
