Emre Can could start for Liverpool in their Europa League semi-final second-leg clash against Villarreal on Thursday after making a speedy recovery from an ankle injury.

However, Sturridge endured a miserable time, feeding off scraps and switching off in key defensive moments as the Reds were comfortably beaten.

Sturridge failed to acknowledge the Liverpool fans at the final whistle of a game which was the club’s first on British soil since an inquest ruled that 96 of their supporters were unlawfully killed at Hillsborough in 1989.

But Klopp explained: “I spoke to him at half-time”.

“I’m especially a little bit disappointed because if we had played our normal game for 90 minutes we could have won the game, but we didn’t play a normal game and that was the problem”. However, I am only frustrated because we could have played better.

He said: “Sorry if you think we ignored the fans, that is not what we wanted, but I went in too immediately”.

“I am happy we are safe”, said Guidolin.

Reds supporters were angry when the England global walked straight up the tunnel following defeat at Swansea on Sunday, having admitted beforehand he couldn’t say he’s “Liverpool until I die”.

Ghana midfielder Andre Ayew is ready to dump Swansea City for “boyhood” club Liverpool in the summer, his agent has revealed.

However, the former Bayer Leverkusen man trained on Monday with the players who did not feature at Swansea and could yet force his way into the reckoning for Thursday night.

He took both his goals exceptionally well and if the rumours are true and Swansea are thinking about offloading the Ghanaian at the end of the season, then they should seriously think again.

Two goals from Andre Ayew and one from Jack Cork at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday proved enough for Swansea to guarantee their Premier League safety.
