Klopp’s quotes suggest Sturridge absence won’t last long despite Tottenham omission

The Dutch custodian started proceedings with a stellar save within five minutes of the match as he denied Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho a sure goal early on.

Indeed, the Merseyside outfit took a deserved lead in the 43rd minute of action when Milner converted from the penalty spot after Erik Lamela had seemingly clipped the heels of Firmino just inside the Spurs box.

Tottenham were fortunate they found enough to claim a point from a game in which they mostly toiled, while Liverpool had more than enough chances to have garnered all three points before Danny Rose escaped the general congestion to equalise.

Neither side could find the victor during the final stages of the game so an entertaining match finished 1-1 in north London.

With Liverpool dominating, they had the ball in the net again moments later, only for the offside flag to curtail Mane’s celebrations, while at the other end Christian Eriksen fired over on the hour mark on a rare foray forward for Spurs.

Last season, both of the matches that these two played ended in draws, but can we expect the same result this time around, too?

Souness feels that Sturridge is not Klopp’s type of player and as such the England global has a big job on his hands to break into the starting eleven on a regular basis at Anfield.

“We had chances and even one in the 92nd minute. My team gave me a lot of really good signs to work with”.

And Spurs rallied to snatch a point as Rose drove a low shot through several Liverpool bodies to maintain his side’s unbeaten start to the season.

Sturridge looked less than impressed on the touchline as Divock Origi was the first striker used as a substitute by Klopp at White Hart Lane.

Jurgen Klopp’s side tried hard to get the crucial late goal but no matter how much Georginio Wijnaldum tried, the former Newcastle United player couldn’t keep his shots on target.

“I think it’s a good signal that he didn’t score yet”, said the Argentine.

“When we know something and when are close to doing something, then we will inform you – or a little bit later”. In the second half we increased our level, our performance.
