Klopp: Sturridge must learn what serious pain is

LIVERPOOL STRIKER Daniel Sturridge was on the sidelines again on Thursday evening (Nov 26) after picking up a foot injury in training. The training for him was intensive, how it should be. Your body has to learn to adapt to a new intensity of training and you have to learn what is serious pain or what is only pain.

“Of course everybody wants him back on the pitch, but we all have to learn”.

“I don’t know too much about the situation because it was in the afternoon after training”, the former Borussia Dortmund manager said, as quoted on Liverpool’s official site.

Sturridge, who has 42 goals in 70 Liverpool appearances, joined the Reds from Chelsea in January 2013 and went on to score 28 times for club and country in 2013-14. When Daniel comes back, usually you would train five weeks in a row with no games – like a pre-season.

“At this moment I can not say more, we have to wait for the results”.

Goals from James Milner and Christian Benteke saw the Reds come from behind to beat Bordeaux 2-1 after Henri Saivet had scored from a free-kick conceded by goalkeeper Simon Mignolet time-wasting.

Despite the imminent arrival of the ailing Premier League champions Spurs coach Mauricio Pochettino fielded a strong side at Qarabag’s Azersun Arena in Baku.

Klopp was pleased with his team’s endeavours, saying on BT Sport Europe: “There is no bad news tonight”.

The entire football world seems to have fallen even more in love with Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp since he arrived at Anfield but I’ve no doubt that the wonderfully eccentric German can be a scary man also.

“I am very happy to have qualified, the team are very happy to have qualified, the club are very happy to be qualified, so you (journalists) can be very happy to have qualified” Klopp told reporters after the game.

Sturridge, who was renowned for his injury problems before joining Liverpool, suffered a knock on the knee prior to Klopp’s first game in charge against Tottenham last month.

“I like this, but it is not always the best thing to do. We’ll need to play well to win”.
