Klopp surprised by Moreno criticism

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp insists he will not be swayed by recent criticism of Reds left-back Alberto Moreno. “If that was the case, how could I be here?”

“If we would have found the flawless fit then we would have made the transfer”, he said.

The former Sevilla player conceded a first-half penalty after bringing down Arsenal’s Theo Walcott in the box and was caught out in position shortly afterwards for Walcott’s opening goal at the Emirates.

“At this stage I don’t know if he will be available for the weekend but I don’t think he will be out for a long time”.

“Emre Can was on the bench, he had a back problem, Lucas Leiva is injured and you ask me for a hard midfield player”.

“I will watch the game again and I am pretty sure I will not see a lot of surprises in this game, I saw everything”.

However, Klopp said Thursday: “Are we doing this every time someone’s performance isn’t very good then we talk about it in a press conference?”

Discussing the reasons for the defeat, he added: “The whole game is explained by the two goals”.

“We know there is work to do, we are still in the market, want to keep improving but it will do the lads the world of good”.

Milly can play it really good, we saw that in the Barcelona game. The former Borussia Dortmund manager has been urged to buy a new left-back to replace Alberto Moreno, who has been found wanting on a number of occasions, but chose to deploy the England worldwide, who is primarily a midfielder. We will only take another one if it’s the guy we want. I respect this but usually in a game like this, we win, if we don’t make mistakes in the wrong moment.

‘It’s not a defending problem, it’s an offensive problem.

“We should be ready in our development and these mistakes shouldn’t happen any more, but our training drills did not include us playing the ball at the wrong time [for the goals] to the opponent”. We have to accept it.

“I don’t think there will be many teams who get the ball as much as Liverpool, they get so many bodies in there”. We have a manager, though, who is confident in what he’s doing and the path he’s putting the players on.
