Klopp takes rap for Liverpool scare

And despite a 75th minute header from Callum Chambers, Liverpool held on as Arsenal lost their opening game of the season at the Emirates for the third time in four season.

A superb double from Philippe Coutinho, along with Sadio Mane’s stunning debut goal and Adam Lallana’s strike, put Liverpool 4-1 up, but Klopp admitted his celebrations after the fourth goal should not be allowed, and that he realised he was celebrating too soon.

Coutinho drilled home his second goal of the day from point-blank range after Liverpool finished a lesson in passing football with Nathaniel Clyne sending a powerful low ball across the face of the Arsenal goal.

Klopp said his side had “switched off” – and that he was to blame.

“Scoring four goals is wonderful, conceding three is the opposite of that emotion”, Klopp told reporters. A deserved win. I’ve no idea about the title.

“It felt for everybody in this moment: “that’s it”.

Lallana added: “If we want to achieve something special this year we have to be more disciplined defensively as a unit”.

“We showed a few nice signs, a few not so nice signs, that’s all”.

Not unsurprising to most of us I’m sure, it’s customary these days to give the other teams a handicap.

Wenger said: “We are not ready, physically”. “It was a contrast between the two halves. We know when we defend better we know we are a threat for each opponent”.

“After that we paid for a lack of experience”.

“But we are not stupid”, Wenger said.

Arsenal at this point were looking absolutely terrible, but somehow you knew they’d come back into it, and they did so with a goal from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. “You have to sometimes accept that you can not control absolutely everything”.

“This was a really intense game for both sides and Arsenal made something like a little break in their game”.

Coutinho received a freekick well out of his reach but scored his first freekick goal in the league by beating Cech handsomely in the dying moments of the first half.

Mourinho was pleased with the victory and the performance from Ibrahimovic, with the Swedish forward’s role at United expected to go beyond just his performances on the pitch. I thought the young lads did OK but they should not be thrown into a situation like that. So he knows what he can be for them.

“I think it’s not important, of course, but it’s not a penalty”, Klopp said. The Gunners, however, were unable to level the scores and they have been eased to 11-1 with bet365.
