Klopp to make changes for EFL Cup tie

Saturday’s defeat led to instant demands from supporters for Klopp to strengthen his squad ahead of the August 31 transfer deadline but Liverpool’s manager, who has been seeking a new left back this summer, refused to reveal his hand.

Liverpool finished eighth last season, as well as reaching two finals, but Klopp’s record against the top six was exemplary, leading to the suggestion that it is the teams not expected to be vying for honours, such as Burnley, who present a crucial challenge to his side this time. If we think they can help us then we will make the change.

“Usually in a game like this we win if we don’t make the mistakes in the wrong moment, but we did and now we have to accept the result and carry on”. “We had counter-attacks for the first and second goals but even at half-time I still thought there was something in the game for us”, Klopp said. While the cutting edge that brought them four goals at the Emirates Stadium was frustratingly absent against Sean Dyche’s well-organised outfit, the all too familiar defensive fragility was still plain to see. First amongst them Emre Can, who didn’t face Burnley over the weekend.

“I wait for the day when the transfer window is closed”, he said jokingly when asked about Liverpool doing any business. “It’s about respecting the game, working hard, playing football”. Of course we respect the opponent, but it’s not the moment to rest somebody or something.

“Of course we will make changes”, Klopp said.

“I like cup games, and we will be competitive”. It was another situation then, and we took each game as a real opportunity for gaining a very good feeling and getting some selfconfidence in not the most easy situations.

“But there is always this kind of pressure whether we are in Europe or not”.

“I would expect a 3-5-2 system, which is what they have played in the last few games”.

“It’s another game, an important game, so we have to show that we can be better than last Saturday”. “We do not feel we can not work with the players”.

Time will tell as to whether or not Klopp’s decision not to sign a replacement for Moreno comes back to haunt him as the season goes on.

The 25-year-old sprung out of non-league football two years ago when leaving Luton for Brentford, and since a switch to Burnley 12 months later he has become a key Claret.
