Catcher Bruce Maxwell, the first batter in the top-half of the fifth inning, will be asking for his ball back as he recorded the first hit of his major-league career. It was Kipnis’ 17th homer of the year – tying a career high set in 2013.

Another solo shot from Jose Ramirez put Cleveland in front 2-1 in the second. Butler then hit the next pitch from Tomlin into the left-field bleachers for his fourth home run.In the bottom of the fourth the Indians scored four runs, hit two more homer, and knocked Overton out of the game. It was the 25th homer Tomlin has allowed this season.

Left fielder Abraham Almonte led off the inning with a solo home run to right field off of Oakland starter Dillon Overton, and then, center fielder Rajai Davis smacked a one-out single to left field.

Napoli hit his team-leading 23rd homer to dead center off Liam Hendricks. The move is retroactive to July 20. In their previous six games, the Indians had hit just one homer.

Oakland’s only other run off Tomlin came in the first, when Danny Valencia smacked a two-out RBI single to give the Athletics a 1-0 lead. It was his first career win over the A’s in three starts. Overton, a lefty called up for his third stint in the majors this year, gave up three home runs and lasted just 3 1/3 innings.

Cleveland Indians’ Mike Napoli hits a two-run home run off Oakland Athletics starting pitcher Sonny Gray during the third inning of a baseball game Sunday, July 31, 2016, in Cleveland. Gibson stepped between them as Tomlin waited on the mound.

Butler tossed his bat several feet from home plate, which began a shouting match between the two players. I said, ‘Hey, man, you don’t like it.That was a strike and the one after it was a good pitch.’ He said, ‘You can’t have both of them. “I just took offense to it.’ It’s just competitiveness”.

“I thought the he might’ve just been asking for a little too much”, Butler said.

“I’ve got to find a way to continue to get outs in that inning”, Graveman said. Once Butler crossed home, home plate umpire Tripp Gibson issued warnings to both benches.

The A’s and Indians drew 32,850 to Progressive Field on Saturday night. Indians’ attendance for the season is 892,917 through 45 home dates.
