Knicks agree to deal with Brandon Jennings

While there will be questions of health and history, there is little question that the Knicks will enter the upcoming season with far more talent than last season. The 26-year-old has struggled the last couple of seasons with on and off court issues, but he’s just three years removed from being considered one of the best young guards in the National Basketball Association and has the ability to score, lead an offense, and play hard on both ends of the court.

Free-agent point guard Brandon Jennings has agreed to terms to join the New York Knicks, he confirmed on Twitter Monday.

Jennings, who will turn 27 before the start of the season, tweeted, “Can’t wait to play in the Mecca! Excited to be joining such a historic franchise @NYKNICKS!”

Jennings suffered a torn left Achilles in January 2015, and didn’t return until the midpoint of the 2015-16 season.

It’s time to get the Knicks back into the playoffs!

Now he will come to NY as the backup to Derrick Rose, whom the Knicks acquired from Chicago in a trade last month.

For his career, Jennings has averaged 15.5 points and 5.9 assists per game, with shooting numbers that haven’t always been the most efficient. He returned to the court last season for Detroit, but saw his production and minutes take a hit before being traded to Orlando. A versatile defender, he dramatically improved his three-point shooting past year. While his work ethic and personality fit well in NY, he didn’t really have a position, not a true point guard and small for shooting guard.

Overall, it is a solid signing by the Knicks.
