Knicks fire coach Derek Fisher; Rambis interim head coach
The guy to do that was never going to be Fisher, as the Knicks are a big market team that needs a big name head coach to lead the franchise.

The Derek Fisher reign as the head coach of the New York Knicks has officially come to an end on Monday, as the team has relieved him from his coaching duties, effective immediately.
Derek Fisher is the latest example of that. New York’s current losing skid contributed to the timing of the move, but the team was already convinced Fisher was not transitioning from the role of player to coach effectively, sources told ESPN’s Brian Windhorst.
According to ESPN New York’s Ian Begley, management was unhappy with Fisher’s performance, and said change was needed.
The Knicks, 23-31, had dropped 11 of their last 14 games and were clearly in need of a change. They sit 12th in the Eastern Conference this season.
The firing of Fisher isn’t that surprising, as he seemed to be the second-best option for Phil Jackson after he got burned by Steve Kerr.
Kurt Rambis will serve as the interim coach.
