A woman and her three daughters have been attacked by a knife-wielding man at a holiday site in the south of France, French media report.

The mother, 46, and her daughters aged eight, 12, and 14 were targeted before the knifeman fled the scene, although he was later arrested by police.

Unconfirmed reports suggested he had objected to the light clothing worn by his victims but Mr Balland said “it’s all rumour, the man’s not said anything”.

The assailant allegedly first launched into a frenzied attack on the daughters as they sat on a terrace at about 10am, before heading inside the apartment to attack their mother.

An eight-year-old girl is fighting for her life after being stabbed.

He is reported to have been on holiday at the resort with his pregnant wife and two children.

French media also said the man was not on the so-called “Fiche S” list, associated with radicalized individuals.

She was air-lifted to a nearby hospital in Grenoble with a punctured lung.

The 37-year-old man remains in custody following the incident at the VVF Villages Lagrand resort near Laragne in southern France.

Both parties were believed to be on vacation at the time of the savage assault, which comes on the heels of last week’s truck attack in Nice, where 84 people were fatally mowed down by a sex-and-drug crazed jihadist on Bastille Day. “No religious connotation word has been pronounced”.
