Former US Open victor Jim Furyk fired the lowest single round score in PGA Tour history on Sunday by shooting a 58 during the final round of the Travelers Championship.

“I played nicely but to make a putt like that to win a tournament, that’s everybody’s dream”, he said. “I could have ripped my shirt off”. The 31-year-old Scot won for the second time on the tour, following his breakthrough victory in China in November in the World Golf Championships-HSBC Champions.

Kelly, a University of Hartford grad, finished the tournament 13-under and was 6-under on the day.

Furyk tied for fifth at 11 under.

At 11-under through 12 holes a second 59 seemed attainable for the 2003 US Open champion who referred to the last nine holes as a “mental battle”. He took the lead with birdies at 13 and 14.

Knox added a par on No. 17.

Knox overcame a wayward tee shot and a trip to the bunker on 18 to save par. He didn’t tear his shirt off, but did send his hat flying in celebration. I keep believing in myself, I tell myself every day that I’m good enough to be up there and win tournaments.

“Rather than mail it in, I went to the range yesterday because I didn’t want to shoot another 72”.

Justin Thomas had the second-best round of the day, shooting an eight-under 62.

Rodgers shot a 2-under 68.

“There’s a lot of rounds by a lot of great players ahead of me that have never reached 58, so to hold that record alone right now, on the PGA TOUR at least … is phenomenal”, Furyk said.

It was tougher for the leaders in the afternoon.

Overnight leader Daniel Berger also finished three strokes behind after a 74 that included four consecutive bogeys from the 10th.

Finishing at 11-under are Robert Garrigus, Tyrone Van Aswegen, Daniel Berger and Jim Furyk. “No, wait, 56.” Geiberger said from the airport in Minneapolis, where he was waiting to fly back to the desert after participating in pro-am activities at the PGA Tour Champions 3M Championships this week. “Jerry!” by pounding his heart with his fist as he walked up the 18th fairway.

Caddie Mike “Fluff” Cowan described the round as “basically flawless” and said they had not talked about the unfolding record.

SPRINGFIELD, Pa. (AP) – South Korea’s Eun Jeong Seong won the U.S. Women’s Amateur at Rolling Green to become the first player to win the event and U.S. Girls’ Junior in the same year. Durant won the last of his four PGA Tour titles at Walt Disney World in 2006. He bounced his next shot over the hole and had to settle for a bogey, before surviving the final two holes.

Harrington meanwhile paid the price for a poor back nine to record a 75 that saw the Olympian finish on -1 and a tie for 64th position. He’s 131st in the FedEx Cup standings, putting him in jeopardy of missing the playoffs.

Two-time defending champion Kenny Perry had a 68 to tie for 37th at 7 under.

“It was one of those weeks where you could easily see playing great next week or the week after”, Watson said, before getting on a plane for Rio de Janeiro. “Next week might help me get even further in the right direction or it could happen next week”.
