Ko climbs to 13th at Evian Championship

So her classy opening 69 at Evian-les-Bains today should shock nobody as the quietly spoken Queenslander sat T15 after the opening round of the year’s final women’s major championship.

The Korean shot 65 on Saturday to be 19-under to be four clear of compatriot Sung Hyun Park, with another two back to China’s Shanshan Feng.

Lydia Ko has made up some ground in her second round at the Evian Championship golf major in France.

Thailand’s Ariya Jutanugarn, the world number two and victor of the Women’s British Open in July, was playing with Chun, but had a demoralising triple-bogey seven at the 18th, her ninth hole.

“I expect tomorrow to be exciting”, she said.

“I’m happy because I try to more enjoy my game because it makes more pressure for me”. The one notable missing element on her resume is the fact that she hasn’t won a major, but it won’t be a surprise if Ko takes care of business this week and finally breaks through with a major tournament win at The Evian Championship.

“With how I feel about my shot, I have no problem”, said Park.

“It was windy and wet when we set out but I putted well and the rain stopped and it was a very good round”. Park co-led this summer’s U.S. Open through 54 holes before falling back to a tie for third, and she could benefit from her first jump into the deep end this time around. “It was good to have my mum back on the bag”.”To remember all the seats by the green to be all full of people, for people to cheer our final group on, and the double whammy tears and the New Zealand flag, there’s so many great things about this event”, she said.

ERIE, Pa. (AP) – Julia Potter won the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur for the second time in four years, beating Shannon Johnson 2 and 1 at The Kahkwa Club.

She hopes to win the third edition of the Rolex Annika Major Award, which rewards the player with the best combined record at all five majors and is named after 10-time major victor Annika Sorenstam. “But no, obviously I don’t really pay attention to everything that’s going around”.

“Usually by Friday this course has killed me”, Stanford said.

Feng’s best finish this year is fifth on the LPGA Tour, and she reckons a slight loss of accuracy and inconsistent putting are the barricades to the winning circle.

Ko bogeyed the eighth hole and she was again in trouble on the 10th when her tee shot landed in the rough between two trees.
