Ko still in running to defend Canadian title
Sounds like a recipe for … a three-stroke lead. Among the wins for the No. -2 ranked player in the world is this year’s Women’s British Open.

The 20-year-old from Thailand erased the women’s course record with an 8-under 64 in her second spin.
Next best were South Koreans Kim Sei-Young at 18 under par and Chun In-Gee at 17-under.
The top-ranked Lydia Ko, who has won the event three times, tied for seventh on 13-under.
Alena Sharp (70) and Maude-Aimee Leblanc (69) topped the Canadians at 6 under. I just really want to be happy on the course.
“I can’t really describe how great it feels to play this well in Canada because I have not played well at the Canadian Open in recent years”, Sharp stated. “I mean some weeks I use my driver if it’s wide enough and if I need the distance, but this week I don’t need that”. “That’s all I need”.
Gene Sauers, the second-round leader and U.S. Senior Open victor two weeks ago, shot a 72 to finish a shot out of the playoff.
She has five victories in 10 events a year after missing 10 straight cuts.
With her trusty three-wood and a mixture of irons, she is averaging almost 280 yards off the tee.
Outside of Jason Day, who leads the PGA Tour with three victories this season, the players with the most wins on the four biggest US golf tours in 2016 are all somewhat of surprises.
“I just had to rest and take care of my knee”, Jutanugarn said.
Sure, easy for the leader to say. Her best career finish to date earned her the Sandra Post Medal as the low Canadian professional at Canada’s National Women’s Open Golf Championship.
“I feel like I’m going to withdraw this week because my knee hurt so bad last week”, Jutanugarn said.
“I think today, like before today I felt like I wanted to have fun and be happy on the course”, Jutanugarn said.
“You know, I think rather than me wanting to win it again, I think there is a bit more added pressure because you are the defending champion”, said Ko. “Ariya and I have such different games”. The potential battle between the world’s top two players would make for outstanding TV.
“I was not hitting it well the first nine holes, but I hung in there”.
The Queensland veteran, who at times this year has struck the ball as well as ever without making a putt, finally tamed the flat stick at Priddis Greens in Calgary – and with enormous effect. I played well last week. “The score didn’t really show and putts started to drop this week, and I hope it can continue this weekend”.
“It turned out to be a really memorable tournament”, said Uehara, who finished a season-high tied for 10th at 12-under 276, 11 adrift of runaway victor Ariya Jutanugarn of Thailand.
With a Canadian flag on her bag and beside her name on the leaderboard, she can certainly count on plenty of support as she tries to run down Jutanugarn in Sunday’s last lap. “They’re super-fast, super-firm, and it’s all about putting out here”. With five homegrown hopefuls on the north side of the cut-line this week at Priddis Greens, it’s a sliver of redemption for everybody.
Quebec City’s Anne-Catherine Tanguay shot 74 and is 1 over for the tournament heading into Sunday’s final round.
“I had three bogeys today, but it was a really good finish on the 18th hole”, said Chun, whose two-day total of 9 under has put her in striking distance of accomplishing what she set out to do at the start of the four-day tournament.

She considered skipping the tournament to get another week off. It was never getting better. “I know in the past we’ve done well as a group, the Canadians, so it’s nice to see halfway through we’ve got some people up there”.
