With Kobe Bryant officially retiring at the end of the 2015-16 NBA season, one debate is whether he should play at the 2016 NBA All-Star Game.
Bryant has been selected to 17 All-Star game before, second-most all-time behind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s 19 selections.
Curry, whose Warriors host James and the Cavs in a Finals rematch today at 5 p.m., was the league’s top vote getter last season and now leads the National Basketball Association with 31.2 points per game. Bryant’s margin over Curry is higher than the vote totals of three would-be starters, including Blake Griffin, who has collected over 182,000 votes in total.
Cleveland’s LeBron James leads the Eastern Conference with 357,937 votes, while his former Miami Heat teammate Dwyane Wade trails James by roughly 57,000 votes.
Kobe Bryant is helping prove that the NBA All-Star, and All-Star games for that matter, are popularity contests.
NBA All-Star Voting 2016 presented by Verizon is an all-digital program that gives fans everywhere the opportunity to vote for their favorite players as starters for the All-Star Game. Fans can vote on NBA.com or the league’s mobile app, or via social media using #NBAVOTE. Along with the NBA All-Star Game, the Air Canada Centre will also host the BBVA Compass Rising Stars Challenge on Friday, Feb. 12 and State Farm All-Star Saturday Night on Saturday, Feb. 13.

Joining him in the Western Conference backcourt based on current voting is 2015 NBA All-Star Game MVP Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma City Thunder with 267,699 with Chris Paul of the Los Angeles Clippers a distant third with 146,335.
