Kobo Launches Aura One Water-Resistant Ebook Reader With 7.8-Inch Display
According to Tamblyn, customers will get a lot more from this new Aura One than the Amazon’s new Kindle Oasis e-reader. E-reader fans who want a break from Kindle can order it on the Aura One’s official page, or wait for the gadget to appear in stores. Users can also manually adjust the colour temperature of the display.

“Experts have cautioned that devices in bed, and specifically the blue light from screens, can affect sleep quality”. The Aura one weighs in at only half a pound and is only 6.9mm wide, despite having a 5.9 inch screen.
While using an e-reader in the bath means no soggy pages, dropping it in the water can mean bad things for your device. Is Kobo’s Aura One the best ever?
Once you’re out of the tub, an ambient light sensor measures light levels to detect the time of day and reduces the amount of blue light exposure when it gets late, so night-time reading should genuinely help you nod off. You no longer have to worry about dropping the e-reader in the pool because you can actually take it in the pool with you.
And yes, it’s waterproof, up to IPX8 standards, meaning you can basically toss it into water with no fear.
The Aura’s built-in reading light also won’t keep you up at night, said Rakuten. TypeGenius lets you change the font size, type, weight and sharpness to truly make the One your, well, one.
Reading is a breeze with 512 MB of RAM and the Fast Solo Lite processor – making page turns fast and seamless.
The Aura One will be out in Australia in October, and will set you back $349.95.
Rakuten, Kobo’s parent company, acquired Overdrive previous year which has deep connections with the e-book lending programs all over the country. Even though it offers more features than Amazon’s Kindle, it’s hard to go toe-to-toe with Amazon’s selection of titles, so Kobo seems to be bringing the fight to price. If you plan to sit poolside, the Kobo Aura H2O remains a less expensive alternative, although its screen isn’t as sharp and it lacks adaptive lighting.

The Kobo Aura One is much more pricier than the Paperwhite pegged at around $230. The new Kobo Aura will also be available in select countries on September 6th for $119USD, with availability in other countries at a later date.
