Koeman: Everton trying to keep Lukaku

Steven Naismith scored a fortuitous goal against his former club as Norwich beat Everton 2-0 in the EFL Cup third round.

The 30-year-old has not made the matchday squad for the last three of the Canaries’ games, while also recently being linked with a January move to Sunderland.

Roberto Firmino has been declared fit for Liverpool’s EFL Cup tie at Derby County, but there is still no place in Jurgen Klopp’s plans for Mamadou Sakho.

Manager Ronald Koeman told reporters Monday that Lukaku will need two days of rest and will be fit for Saturday’s match against Bournemouth.

But, with 16 minutes left, Murphy showed Everton how it should be done, picking the ball up wide on the right and beating two men before curling an unstoppable shot from 20 yards past the motionless Stekelenburg and in off the bar. “I think that speaks volumes for how highly the lad is regarded here”, his manager said. “The players need to respond, because if they don’t play well, then it will make it hard to get their chances”.

“Every year they play at least in the semi-finals of the Champions League and the Bundesliga will suit him tremendously”. The Blues struck again on 94 minutes, with Fabregas lashing the ball into the roof of the net.

“They had two shots on target, they were clinical and maybe lucky”.

“But him and his brother are match winners”. In cup football you don’t get a second chance but I can’t criticise my players because we did everything to score the goal.

“Norwich had a bit of luck for their first and we did not have that luck”. We go on. No problem.

“I don’t organise parties after 13 points from five games or have gripes after tonight”.

“At the moment there is no reason to be unhappy, football is about being happy, we are doing it in a way that the fans are happy, and of course everyone happy because we’re winning”.
