Kohli ton helps India post 295/6 in Melbourne ODI
India’s bowlers today produced yet another sloppy performance to allow Australia clinch the five match ODI series by taking an unassailable 3-0 lead as they cruised to a three-wicket victory in the third match despite a heroic century by Virat Kohli. India, invited to bat by Steve Smith, posted a total of 295-6 thanks to a run-a-ball knock of 117 from Virat Kohli.

Australia got off to a steady start with Aaron Finch (21) and Shaun Marsh (62) adding 48 runs for the first wicket.
MS Dhoni said India must aim higher with the bat as well as show a vast improvement with the ball despite passing 300 for the second successive one-day global as they went 2-0 down to Australia.
He came in with Australia in peril on 167 for four, and though he failed to clinch victory and his century at the same time with a 12th boundary shot, the win was achieved with seven deliveries to spare. In these 58 matches, the Indian bowlers have struggled to defend the target on as many as 11 occasions; the team lost outright on 10 occasions (the latest being Friday), and on one other occasion the team chasing – which was England in the 2011 World Cup – levelled the score to ensure a tie. “On and off our bowling was decent…it was the fielding that let us down”, India’s ODI and T20I skipper said after losing the series in Melbourne on Sunday.
Earlier in a day, Kohli also became the fastest batsman to reach 7000 ODI runs in 161 innings, surpassing South Africa star AB de Villiers’ record of 166 innings. While they didn’t lose any more wickets, India could only reach 62/1 in the first 15 overs. Spinner Ravindra Jadeja broke things up by having Smith caught at slip for 41, and as Shaun Marsh took little notice to reach his fifty in 53 balls, the left-arm bowler returned to have George Bailey stumped for 23. When Ishant sent back Marsh a couple of overs later, the Indians held the upper hand with the Australian score reading 167/4.
Umesh Yadav took wickets initially but was never restricting runs.
Ajinkya Rahane (50) also did well, scoring a half-century.
India lost opener Rohit Sharma early.
Glenn Maxwell hits out during his match-winning innings.
Smith ran in from long-on and caught it at the edge of the boundary.
Hastings struck in the 45th over to dismiss Rahane who was caught at deep midwicket while looking to smash a six.
