Koki Manunga and Joyce Zakary “have accepted provisional suspensions following positive samples provided in Beijing on the 20th and 21st of August respectively”, the IAAF said in a statement.

Zakary set a national record of 50.71 seconds to qualify from heat three of the 400 metres on Monday, but was a non-starter in the semi-finals on Tuesday.

Athletics Kenya was not immediately available for comment.

Top Kenyan athletes earlier this month called for the national governing body, the global Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) and the world’s anti-doping body WADA to take action over reports of widespread doping.

The Kenyans have 13 athletes now serving doping suspensions.

“It is disappointing that people are still trying to cheat but it is great that we’re catching them”, said the 54-year-old former world, Commonwealth and European 1500m champion.

Doping allegations overshadowed the build-up to the championships, with damaging claims, fiercely denied by the IAAF, that it turned a blind eye to suspicious blood test results from hundreds of athletes.

“Athletics Kenya will provide full support and cooperation to the IAAF during the results management process and will not be providing further comment at this stage”, the organization said in a statement sent to CNN.
