Kompany’s defensive colleague Toby Alderweireld told Sky Sports News headquarters: “The only thing I can say is that he’s fit and training with the group now”.

Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany is set to defy the wishes of his club manager Manuel Pellegrini and feature for Belgium tonight, despite persisting concerns about his fitness, as per the Telegraph.

Manchester City will have no say in whether Vincent Kompany plays for Belgium against Israel this week.

The centre-back has missed several games of late with a calf problem, and Pellegrini was keen for Kompany to be left out of Belgium’s fixtures during this worldwide break.

But Wilmots believes it will be beneficial for City for Kompany to take part in a few meaningful action. “I don’t see any problem if he feels OK”, said Wilmots.

“I think it will be good for Man City if Kompany gets a few match time”.

Pellegrini has acknowledged that he is powerless to stop Belgium from picking Kompany to play, but after the injuries picked up by Sergio Aguero and David Silva on global duty, the Chilean is sure to be angered by Wilmots” decision to “risk’ the 29-year-old.

It also seems that the 29-year-old’s club haven’t been kept in the loop either, with Wilmots adding, “There’s been no contact with Manchester City”.

Belgium have already qualified for the Euro 2016 finals but can rise to number one in the next Federation Internationale de Football Association rankings if they beat Israel in what is expected to be a festival atmosphere in Brussels. “He has worked hard in training and knows his own body well”.
