The 19-year-old Mayo ranks second on the Edmonton Oil Kings of the WHL with 21 assists and third in points with 22, including one goal, .
The Kings have comeback five times when trailing after two periods so far this season. Shortly after a major penalty was assessed, Kings defenseman Alec Martinez flipped a puck over the glass, giving the Coyotes a 5-on-3 power play for two minutes.
“I saw (Tikhonov) stumble just a little bit and that gave me a bit of a head start”, Kopitar said to reporters after the game. The Kings, who had yet to secure a win against the Coyotes in two previous meetings this season, came into the night having lost two straight games, into a building where they’d won only twice in their past nine regular season visits.
“It looked pretty nasty”, Coyotes coach Dave Tippett said.
Antoine Vermette drew the Coyotes within 3-2 when he deflected defenseman Michael Stone’s shot from the point past Quick at 16:07. Arizona got on the board midway through the first period when Oliver Ekman-Larsson beat Jonathan Quick high to the blocker-side with a shot from the point. “It wasn’t even a penalty; it was a hockey play”, Kings coach Darryl Sutter said.

Muzzin got the penalty for a blind hit on Boyd Gordon with 6:40 left. It wasn’t certain whether he would join the team for their game Sunday in Colorado…. “What it does is it just takes a toll on the penalty killers and keeps a lot of offensive players out of the game”.
