Korean Kim wins by five strokes in Greensboro

Lucas Glover had a 19-inch putt between him and shooting the second round of 10-under 60 in Round 2 of the 2016 Wyndham Championship.

“My irons and putting game is much better”, Kim said. Two bogeys on the 10th and 12th holes derailing his momentum after a solid front nine. He added birdies on the par-4 13th, par-5 15th and par-4 18th. He recovered from this setback with a birdie on the 15th and final hole, securing his win. Carlson missed a putt for birdie from about 20 feet, ending the match.

“I knew it was into the grain up that hill”. His birdie attempt missed on his final hole.

“Something seems unusual that I could move up the leaderboard while I wasn’t playing in a way to put me here”, Matsuyama said.

Na (70) faded down the stretch and also tied for 10th.

“You had to play a ideal round of golf” to catch Kim, Snedeker said.

Fifty-six players were still on the course when darkness suspended the second round. I can see guys hitting lot of wedges. “Obviously play with a little bit more freedom and go out there and hopefully keep playing the way I played this week”.

Na was alone in second place, two strokes back, before his double-bogey 6 on No. 18, combined with Kim’s final birdie pushed him down the leaderboard.

But things briefly got tense on the back nine: Kim lost a stroke on the 10th after missing a 4-foot par putt in a driving rain, then gave two more back with bogeys on Nos. “Anytime you shoot that it was impressive”.

Kim said all he was anxious about was making the eagle on the fifth hole.

Kim became the youngest victor on tour this season, and the second-youngest in tournament history; Seve Ballesteros was 20 when he won here in 1978.

Kim, 31, is 43rd on the FedExCup points list, thanks largely to his playoff defeat by Aaron Baddeley at the Barbasol Classic in July.

In the seven-player Honors Division for players 63 and older, defending champion Jan Stephenson shot a 74 to take a three-stroke lead over Shelley Hamlin.

“Not so much celebrate today”, Kim said. Sometimes it was veteran Jim Furyk, sometimes it was Kevin Na, and it ended up being Rafael Cabrera-Bello of Spain. “But I’m in a good position and hope to enjoy playing”. “I’ve been chasing that win that has been elusive so far, but it’s just been exciting to have the opportunity”. “I love Davis. I want to be there representing the United States so I’m going to use that as motivation to go out there and work hard and grind my tail off the next three days”.
