Koscielny and Walcott boosts for Arsenal

The Gunners have a particularly poor reputation when it comes to injuries under Wenger and it seems Gooners have had quite enough.

The Spaniard suffered ligament damage in a second-half challenge with Gary O’Neil in Sunday’s 1-1 Premier League draw with Norwich City, although he completed the 90 minutes.

The North Londoners also lost Alexis Sanchez and Laurent Koscielny through injuries in the same match.

After a strong start to the season, the Gunners have stuttered to just two points from their last three Premier League games.

He continued, joking that he’d told Arsene Wenger that he was ready to come out of retirement and fill the gap in the team if things got too desperate at the Emirates. Kieran Gibbs and Theo Walcott are expected to be fit enough to face Sunderland.

He has been out through injury since late October when he was forced off during the 3-0 Capital One Cup defeat at Sheffield Wednesday.

Wenger added: “We will make a decision on Saturday on Koscielny and Walcott, they could both make the squad”. Mikel Arteta is also now out with a calf injury, leaving only Mathieu Flamini and Aaron Ramsey as the senior central midfielders in the squad.

Tomas Rosicky, Danny Welbeck and Jack Wilshere are long-term absentees.

Cazorla’s absence means the coach is without his preferred midfield duo of Coquelin and the Spain global, and that could have a big effect on their overall performances until the 2 returns.

“The great opportunity for us is that, despite that bad spell, we are very close”.

“We are in touch with Arsenal doctors and they have allowed Alexis to fly home and be treated for a week”, said Chile national team coach Jorge Sampaoli.
