Kraft Singles Recalled for Choking Hazard

The company is recalling the product because a thin strip of the individual packaging film could stick to the slice after the wrapper has been removed. There have been 10 consumer complaints to date about the packaging, including three reports of consumers choking, the company said. The products have a Manufacturing Code S54 or S55. Consumers who purchased this product should not eat it, but should return it to the store where purchased for an exchange or full refund.

The company announced Friday that it was voluntarily recalling one pound, three pound and four pound boxes of Kraft Singles American and white American pasteurized cheese. The only varieties or codes included in the recall pertain to the single cheese slices.

“We believe a piece of stainless steel got wedged in a metal piece of equipment, which may have generated friction that resulted in small pieces of metal potentially falling into the product”, Joyce Hodel, a Kraft spokeswoman, said in a statement at the time, as stated by The Huffington Post.

At this time, there have been no other products by Kraft identified to be at risk for choking or any other health concern. Luckily, no injuries were reported with this recall.
