The quiet weekend sets the stage for two weeks of theatrical ramp-up for “Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens”, which hits theaters December 18, and is expected to break every box office record in the galaxy.
Meanwhile, Spike Lee’s Chi-Raq, a drama about gun violence in Chicago, opens at 13 with $1.3 million (£812,500) in takings from a limited release in 305 locations across the USA and Canada.
The latest installment in the “Rocky” franchise, “Creed”, continues to perform well.
