Outside of SportsNet LA, Dodgers fans could only see a regular-season game if it was taken by ESPN, Fox Sports or, last weekend, cleared in the market by TBS.
The first of the final six games of the regular season will be played on September 23.
The Dodgers end the home portion of their regular-season schedule September 19-25 with three games against San Francisco and four against Colorado. Scully, who has only called three other road games in 2016 – opening day in San Diego, and May 18-19 in Anaheim – plans to call all three games in San Francisco.
“We thank Charter and the entire Los Angeles Dodgers organization for the unique opportunity to honor the Dean of Sports Broadcasters, and share these iconic Dodgers games and moments with our entire KTLA5 Southern California community”, Corsini said.
Los Angeles-based Dodgers fans deprived of watching their local team, whose games are only available on Time Warner Cable’s SportsNet LA, will finally be able to see some baseball from their couch.
Charter customers already receive access to SportsNet LA, the team’s channel.
The Dodgers had a similar arrangement in 2014 with over-the-air station KDOC to simulcast the team’s final six games of the regular season, which included the division clincher against the Giants. The team did not allow for any over-the-air games in 2015 in Southern California.
Scully is retiring after 67 years as broadcaster for the Dodgers.
During the Dodgers’ previous FSW/Prime Ticket relationship, a package of games was sold off to over-the-air partners like KCAL Channel 9 (2005-2013), KCOP Channel 13 (2002-2005) and KTLA (1997-2005). The regional sports network hasn’t been able to reach an agreement with pay TV carriers over the broadcast rights.
