KU lands four on Naismith Hall of Fame preseason watch lists

Damion Lee, a fifth-year senior who graduated from Drexel and transferred to U of L this offseason, is on the preseason watch list for the Julius Erving Award, which is given to the top small forward in college basketball.

Collinsworth drives by an Iowa State defender in 2013. Bronson Koenig is in the watch list for the Bob Cousy Award, which recognizes the top point guard.

Rathan-Mayes became the freshman in ACC history to score 30 or more points three times with a career-high 35 points at North Carolina (Jan. 24), 35 points at Miami (Feb. 25) and 30 points against Clemson (March 11) in the first ACC Tournament game of his career.

The Julius Erving Award recognizes the top small forward in the nation and the Bob Cousy Award recognizes the top point guard in the country. The award is given annually to the nation’s top point guard. Twenty players are named to each watch list.

Gathers was named a second-team All-American and an All-Big 12 First Team honoree following his junior season. The Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Watch List will be announced on Friday.

Smith-Rivera also led Georgetown with 3.2 assists (10th in the BIG EAST), was third on the team with 4.2 rebounds per game and led the team with 1.6 steals per game (sixth in the BIG EAST). He was a finalist for the honor last season while averaging 15.3 points and earning All-America accolades. Each list will be narrowed to 10 in mid-February. Like Selden, Mason was a main cog in the World University Games gold medal run as he averaged 14.5 points in the eight victories. The winners will be presented at the ESPN College Basketball Awards Show live from Club Nokia in Los Angeles, Calif., on April 8, 2016.
