The Bears won’t have every key player on the field tonight and we won’t see the first team for very long, but there are plenty of things that will start shaking out tonight on the field. If the starting job really is still up for grabs, then I guess we will get at least one more game with Lynch rolling in the second half with the third string.

The first pass of their 2016 preseason was a left-handed throw by a right-handed quarterback, but the Denver Broncos settled in after Mark Sanchez’ initial off-hand flip as the team’s competition at quarterback didn’t get any more settled.

Meanwhile, all rookies, draft choices or not, are critical to the organization’s present and future.

The good news for the Bears is that their quarterback situation is settled, at least for one season.

Some are more pivotal than others.

The Class of ’16 has never lined up opposite anything but teammates. He played seven seasons as Houston’s starter and the past two years with Baltimore and Oakland. Floyd had 4 1/2 sacks for Georgia last season, but he won’t be dropping back in coverage the way he did in college. They lost their first three games and climbed into 5-3 but eventually disappeared in the playoffs race.

With both Sanchez and Siemian listed as co-No.

If the over-under on Broncos sacks is the 52 they notched a year ago, I’m going over. What they show on Thursday will be for more than simple evaluation purposes. – Cutler on the Bears’ play.

Gary Kubiak, for his part, has seemed pretty excited about Trevor Siemian since he was drafted, always making a point to mention him when quarterback battles come up.
