“Sri Lanka Cricket expresses its honest condolences on the tragic demise of a 28-year-old youth in an accident involving Sri Lanka cricketer Nuwan Kulasekera earlier today”, said the SLC statement.
In a statement Sri Lanka Cricket expressed its “sincere condolences on the tragic demise’ of the youth in the accident”.
Kulasekara said the motorcyclist had been travelling in the opposite direction, when he had overtaken a bus, crashed into the “bund” in the middle of the road, and been thrown onto the path of his vehicle.
However, later in the evening, he was released on bail, after police admitted that it was not Kulasekara’s fault.
The 33-year-old Nuwan Gunasekera made his Test debut in 2005 against New Zealand.
Police have deployed Buddhist monks to bless risky roads, including the A-1, to minimise accidents.
Kulasekara, a specialist medium-pacer, had had called a time on his Test career earlier this year.
