A soldier was martyred and 20 terrorists were killed during an anti-PKK operation in southeastern Turkey’s Hakkari province late Thursday, a Turkish military source told Anadolu Agency Friday.
The PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US and European Union – resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015. The PKK, which Turkey and other Western countries regard as a terrorist organization, has waged a thirty-year insurgency to establish Kurdish autonomy. A ceasefire broke down just over a year ago. Rights groups say hundreds of civilians have also been killed in the clashes.
