Kurt Busch conserves fuel and wins at Pocono Raceway

“My mistake comparing @keselowski @LVMotorSpeedway incident today @poconoraceway but @NASCAR called vehicle down pit road to fix issue not me”, Gordon tweeted.

After Joe Gibbs Racing dominated eight of the first 13 races on the season, Pocono was a day for other teams to flex their muscles and get back into the groove. “He said we were two laps shy of having enough, but he said ‘Go get it for us.’ I knew we could get those guys [the other leaders] because they were really gambling on fuel”.

Sydney Romero’s three-run homer gave Oklahoma a 3-2 victory over Auburn and put the Sooners a win away from their third national championship Oklahoma (56-7), which won national titles in 2000 and 2013, extended its school-record win streak to 31 games.

There shouldn’t have been any doubt that Busch could do it, even though a lengthy crew chief-driver relationship often helps the driver know just by inflection in the voice how serious the fuel-mileage directive may be.

Rain limited practice time on Friday and not every team even made it out on the track.

“We can’t give all our secrets (away)”, Klausmeier said afterward. “These are really long straightaways at Pocono”.

Lap leaders: Logano 1-17; Larson 18-25; Kenseth 26-53; Harvick 54-62; Kenseth 63-65; Elliott 66-86; Kyle Busch 87-89; Elliott 90-118; Allmendinger 119-120; Dillon 121-123; Earnhardt Jr.

Team engineer John Klausmeier served as Busch’s interim crew chief and earned his first career win in that role. In the middle of the race, Tony Stewart and Danica Patrick crashed not long after a restart after things got wide on the track.

They sure did – a victory that Busch was building toward all season. Busch led 32 laps en route to his 28th career Sprint Cup victory. It all turned into a win here at Pocono.

What the crew chiefs don’t have, and what they can’t control whether they’re at the race or not, is the driver behind the wheel.

But Busch had zero concerns about Klausmeier’s ability to take over the duties in Gibson’s absence. “We just get used to it”. I’m just glad that the restart panned out perfectly for us. “I wish I had been a little more patient and given ourselves a better chance, but you live and you learn”.

Team Penske teammates Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano started the race on the front row with Keselowski as the pole sitter.

The drivers of Hendrick Motorsports had a great day on the track, led by Chase Elliott, who led the most laps on the day.

Not only did Stewart, who missed the season’s first eight races, lose ground on his bid to finish 30th or better in the points to qualify for the Chase.

Muhammad Ali and his family never seriously thought of donating his brain for research, according to the doctor who treated the boxing great.

In the broadcast booth Sunday, the retired four-time NASCAR champ said Truex’s dominant feat last weekend should be rewarded, not decried as bad for the sport because of the way he cruised against no true competition in the Coca-Cola 600.

IndyCar star Marco Andretti, a nearby Nazareth, Pennsylvania native, visited the track and sat in Tony Stewart’s pit box.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. once more came close to snaring his first NASCAR Sprint Cup win of this season.

Now Busch heads to Michigan International Speedway, where he is the defending victor of the spring race.
