Kuwait man held for funding Indian Islamic State sympathisers

The authorities in Kuwait arrested Abdulla Hadi Abdul Rehman Al Enezi after being tipped off by India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA).

Majeed later, who is from Mumbai, joined ISIS in 2014 but returned after months.

Abdulla Hadi Abdul Rehman Al Enezi had reportedly sent Dollars 1,000 to four men in India including Areeb Majeed from Maharashtra who had joined the Islamic State in 2014. He, during questioning, revealed that he and his friends approached an IS handler for money to go to Syria after which Al Enezi financed them. It is reported that the accused, a Kuwaiti national had sponsored four Kalyan youths trip to Iraq in 2014, after which they joined ISIS.

Kuwaiti authorities have registered a case against him and arrested him on these charges.

Enezi has also confessed of having backed terrorist organisations and involved in financing of terrorism after his return from Pakistan three years ago, ANI added.

NIA arrested Majeed in November 2015 when he returned from Iraq.

“The NIA had earlier sent a Mutual Legal Assistance Request to Kuwait in the Areeb Majeed-ISIS case in respect of transfer of Dollars 1000 by a Kuwaiti national to accused Areeb Majeed and his 3 associates while they were staying in Iraq in May, 2014”, the press release from NIA read.

This is the first global arrest made by the officials in connection with ISIS recruitment in India. The Kuwait government has informed NIA that Al Enezi has admitted to sending the money and funding militant activities.
