Kyle Busch drives to victory in Michigan

Buschs Toyota passed Blaneys Ford with three laps to go, and he went on to win the Careers for Veterans 200, a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Michigan worldwide Speedway on Saturday.

Still, Busch won the race despite being penalized on the 27th lap for speeding as he entered the pits, which sent him to the rear of the field, and came back to win a race that had four cautions in the final 30 laps.

Ryan Blaney took the lead off the re-start with six laps left, but was overtaken by Busch who slipped by him on the inside on the following lap. The driver of the No. 88 Toyota truck will be a strong contender to win this 200-mile race at the two-mile Michigan oval. Blaney was extended his lead with a draft from Erik Jones, when the bossman came over the radio.

Busch is seven victories shy of Ron Hornaday Jr.’s career record for the series. In 10 laps, Busch moved back into the top 10.

“We got the lead on the restart there; that was good for us to get the lead”, Blaney said. Sauter then stayed out in front for the next 24 laps, until a round of green flag pit stops proved unkind when a painfully long stay in his stall cost him multiple positions. It was Busch’s first truck win after four runner-up finishes at MIS. “I think more grass would be beneficial”, Busch, the vocal anti-grass at proponent, sarcastically said. “He can lay back to the 4 and just get a big run and get by you”. They timed it right and I just couldn’t slow ’em down.

“But that was pretty fun out there. We were close to getting them in Victory Lane today but maybe next year I could have another shot at it”.

Brad Keselowski’s foundation and the Cooper Standard Foundation, a business partner of the Rochester Hills racer, were the presenting sponsors of the race.

“I looked up at the roof and the roof was caving in”, said Crafton, who also watched the windshield convex. He has won in both of his NCWTS starts this season.

NOTABLES: Tyler Reddick, who finished ninth, remains the points leader but was never a factor Saturday.

Jones, a rookie, is third in the standings, one point behind Crafton.
