Kyle Edmund inspired by fine run at US Open
World number one Novak Djokovic comes into this clash on the back of a hard time in the past one month, but his performances at the ongoing US Open have shown that he is still the man to beat.

The 21-year-old world number 84 has beaten two seeds to reach the last 16 for the first time in his career. So it’s good to play an entire match, considering I had not much time spent on the court in last couple rounds.
For the sake of my outright on Gael Monfils I’d love Tsonga to beat the Serb here, but Djokovic looked pretty good against Kyle Edmund and he doesn’t seem to be hampered by his supposed injury issues. “To play the world number one on the biggest tennis court in the world, doesn’t get much better than that”.
Nevertheless, Edmund is set to reach the edge of the top 50 on the back of his results in NY and he carries great momentum into Britain’s Davis Cup semi-final against Argentina later this month. Edmund’s defeat means Andy Murray is the last Briton left in the singles, while Djokovic goes on to face France’s Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the last eight.
To say that Djokovic has had the better of their recent clashes is an understatement, with the Serb not dropping a set to the Frenchman in nine of their last 10 meetings.
Tennis Channel recaps the day’s action at the U.S. Open, where Serena and Venus Williams, Simona Halep, Any Murray and Stan Wawrinka won easily in the third round.
Djokovic was leading 4-2 when Russia’s Mikhail Youzhny was forced to withdraw with a leg injury.
The 29-year-old remains on course for his 13 Grand Slam title and his third this year.
“I’m feeling very good”.
Spaniard Rafael Nadal has still yet to drop a set as he maintained his 100 per cent record at the tournament thus far, beating Russia’s Andrey Kuznetsov 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 to book his place in round four. “I wanted to move him around the court”.
“I think he was overwhelmed by the stage today”, Djokovic said.
Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga ended the hopes of an American reaching the last eight at NY for the first time since 2011 after he beat Jack Sock 6-3 6-3 6-7 (7) 6-2. During the match, Đoković won just as his opponent three points directly from the serve, committed seven double mistakes and the first service percentage was 61 percent. “I’m motivated. So coming into the second week of a grand slam quarter-finals … it’s exactly where I want to be”.
The Serbian athlete triumphed over the Brit 6-2, 6-1, 6-4, on Sunday, advancing to the quarterfinals.
The seventh-seeded Italian beat 99th-ranked Lesia Tsurenko 7-6 (5), 6-2 on Sunday.
The U.S. Open debuted its roof over Arthur Ashe Stadium, the $150 million project promising live tennis no matter the weather.
