Kyrgios Accepts Davis Cup Absence

Twice before, in 1999 and then in 2003, Hewitt has been part of winning teams in the Davis Cup, and now he believes that he can do it for a third time, by propelling Australia to victory over Murray’s Britain, and then against Belgium or Argentina in the late November final. That’s a given. But it’s about Jamie as well and I think he is playing the best tennis of his career.

Hewitt and Murray will be on opposing sides in this week’s Davis Cup semi-final in Glasgow. He lost to Andy and Jamie Murray alongside Sam Groth but world number three Murray ensured his team took a 3-1 lead on Sunday thanks to a 7-5 6-3 6-2 victory over Bernard Tomic.

Far from unwanted, Lleyton Hewitt insists Nick Kyrgios remains a “shining light” for Australian tennis, despite his conspicuous absence from this weekend’s Davis Cup showdown with Great Britain.

Hewitt, who will formally retire after the Australian Open in January, farewells Davis Cup as Australia’s longest-serving and most prolific singles victor in the prestigious competition.

“For my last Australian Open I think it’s great preparation”, Hewitt said. “It’s the reason that I still played this season because I felt like we had a good opportunity to do well and that I could still add something to the Davis Cup team as a player this year”.

Murray said his upcoming appearance in Perth would give him the ideal preparation for the Australian Open.

Tara McGregor-Woodhams, Head of Brand & Sponsorship, Aegon United Kingdom said: “I’m extremely proud of the work that Aegon does to help children in the communities around us”.

Defending champions Poland (Jerzy Janowicz and Agnieszka Radwanska) won’t return next January. You are covering less of the court but there are movements that I’m not used to making in singles matches so after doubles matches my body is a little bit stiff in certain places. “No disrespect to Dominic Inglot – he’s had a great summer – but Andy’s different class”, Masur said.

More than 95,700 fans visited Perth Arena for Hopman Cup 2015, which featured nine top-20 players, including four top-10 players.

“He’s had a great career and left a great legacy and his records will stand”, Masur said.

“The State Government’s support started when the Hopman Cup began in 1989 and, thanks to a new agreement signed previous year , the event has been secured for WA until 2022”, he said.
