Kyrgios topples idol Tsonga in electric clash
World No. 3 Dimitrov awaits in the fourth-round after his four-set win over Andrey Rublev and the Bulgarian was happy regardless of who he faced.

Kyrgios, who has a notorious on-court temperament, dealt with the incident calmly. He is one of my idols.
But Kerber overcame a stern test from Donna Vekic to advance to the third round for the sixth time in seven years, while Sharapova dismissed 14th seed Anastasija Sevastova to reach Round 3 for the sixth time in seven years.
The Frenchman gave a serious examination of the man most likely to end Australia’s 32-year wait for a male champion, but Kyrgios held his nerve impressively in three tie-breaks.
Kyrgios won his first home ATP Tour title at the lead-up Brisbane International and is looking to go further than a quarter-final appearance in Melbourne three years ago.
Tsonga had more winners (70-54), won a higher percentage of points on first serve (87 percent to 79 percent for Kyrgios) and won more points (144-142).
The step up to facing a top 10 player was too much. It’s going to be interesting to see how Tsonga bounces back in this intriguing third round match.
“I think Federer would have been unreal at any sport he chose”, came the reply. At 5-2 down in the fourth set breaker I was getting ready for a fifth set mentally.
Crowd favourite was preparing to serve for the game in the second set of his second round match on Wednesday night when he was interrupted by the crazed man who was standing directly alongside his player’s box.
Nadal said: “It’s an important victory for me, a tough opponent”.
‘I mean, whoever it is, I’m very excited to just play, to go out there and compete. He was a guy I looked up to as a kid – and still do.
After claiming the first set, Kyrgios secured a break in the opening game of the second, helping to establish the two sets to love lead. “I just stayed composed, tried to make returns and fired it through”.
With Hisense lacking the usual upbeat vibe that Kyrgios thrives on, he said he felt like he was playing at a different tournament. “That was incredible”, Kyrgios said.
“And I was like, people think I’m cool but I just wanted him to think that I was like the coolest person ever”. It was surreal seeing him.
Later the young Aussie told reporters what he was telling Smith during the changeovers of the third set.
“I served well, thought I returned pretty good, hit my forehand well, hit my backhand well”, Kyrgios said.
“The helicopter, that’s when I was thinking like, of course, it’s at my match”. He was really genuine.
One video titled “Public dare challenge” sees Zhu and some fellow pranksters dressed in nappies walking through a Melbourne mall and singing Christmas carols, another shows him making a mess in a book store by jumping onto a display shirtless and wearing a G-string.

‘I got to tell him – I have Focus on my phone and I watch it every time I have a flight. Again, at last year’s Australian Open, there’s no way he could have reined his emotions in the way he did last night.
