“My mentality is improving and I am trying really hard to fight for every point and just compete”.

Roger Federer admitted that he is suitably impressed with Nick Kyrgios’ form over the past month.

After suffering his earliest loss at Indian Wells since 2010 and the end of a 19-match win streak at the event, Djokovic now heads to Miami to defend his title there. “It’s not anybody’s birthday, and I could just focus on playing tennis”.

Roger Federer registered a third successive win over Rafael Nadal for the first ever time and he was left purring with the manner of his performance. Federer told ESPN he felt bad for Kyrgios and had been intrigued to take on the talented but temperamental 21-year-old Australian. For a change, it was the world No: 2 who lost his cool against Kyrgios the during the match. “I was going to take a break for who knows? I have to get back to work in a couple of days”, the 18-time Grand Slam victor added. But he’s got to want to do that. Wednesday’s match was just the fifth time they weren’t opposing each other in a final. I can’t believe for his size how well he can move, how explosive. “I didn’t hold when I had the opportunity and all of sudden those games kind of slipped away”.

Of course, Federer specializes in improvisational solutions. But Federer’s shotmaking was superb, frequently kissing the lines off both sides.

In the reissue of the Australian final, the Swiss won 6-2 and 6-3 in 1 hour and 7 minutes and will play quarter finals against Kyrgios.

“Unfortunately I am unable to play today due to sickness”, Kyrgios said on Twitter. I will definitely be back. I think that´s the most incredible thing about his game.

The Australian tennis player won 6-4 7-6 and forced the reigning champion of this tournament to pass the crown to a new victor. “I am very proud of it”. It’s never too late to iron out your flaws, especially if you have only one to speak of.

“I think about Fed and Rafa, the most unbelievable thing is both of them are still unbelievably motivated after all the time they’ve played to continue to play at this level”, Gilbert said.

Like his quarter-final opponent, Kyrgios has also not dropped a set enroute to the last-eight clash.

Nick Kyrgios has delivered a masterclass to upset Novak Djokovic and confirm himself as the most exciting prospect in world tennis.

Ultimately, service breaks will sparse in this quarterfinal.

But it wasn’t serve alone that won Kyrgios this match.

“Yeah, I don’t know what happened”. And although Kyrgios has showed his volatility many times during his short career, Djokovic, not Kyrgios, was the more unsettled and combustible man on Wednesday as the aces and winners again piled up in Kyrgios’s favour. And it might be one of the first times in a long, long time that I feel this way.

“But, yeah, I remember a lot”.

After last night, we have a complete schedule of the quarterfinals of the Indian Wells tournament. “So it’s going to be a completely different game”. “That’s a great quality to have already now”, he added.
