LA Confidential director Curtis Hanson dies aged 71
Paramedics found his body at his home in Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles, after they responded to an emergency call. In his early days, Hanson was a director-for-hire in Hollywood for low-budget films like Tom Cruise’s Losin’ It in 1983.

Writer/director/producer Curtis Hanson, who won an Oscar for the adapted screenplay of the crime drama “L.A”. Slim Shady spoke out on the 71-year-old 8 Mile director passing away this week. He died of natural causes, she said.
In a statement, he said: “Curtis Hanson believed in me and our insane idea to make a rap battle movie set in Detroit”. “In a sense, it was my film school”, he told the A.V. Club in 2001.
Hanson went on to direct 1994’s “The River Wild” with Meryl Streep and Kevin Bacon. He started working with writing and directing indie pics.
“So sad to lose Curtis Hanson”, Pearce, 48, wrote alongside of black and white snapshot of him and the late director on the L.A. Confidential set.
Fellow Corman alumnus & dedicated film buff Curtis Hanson has passed. “Confidential“, which he directed and co-wrote with Brian Helgeland. “Confidential” has reportedly died at a Los Angeles hospital.

The movie, about a struggling battle rapper trying to push his career forward while dealing with poverty and dysfunctional family issues, was also critically acclaimed remains one of the most celebrated hip-hop movies ever made.
Despite hesitations from the public about Eminem as an actor and about the concept of film based on his life story, the movie received strong reviews and remains a viewer favorite to this day.
“And, so in my getting to know him, I had to assess and then make an educated guess of whether he would be able to do to that and whether he would trust me and the environment I would create enough to do that”.
According to a Los Angeles Times article from 2012, Hanson was unable to complete what would be his last directorial assignment due to a serious illness, that year’s surfing drama Chasing Mavericks.
