LA Law reboot in the works

Finally, those people are going to get the pandering they deserve thanks to a reboot of the classic ’80s drama L.A. Law.

The U.S. series, which starred Richard Dysart and Alan Rachins, ran from 1986 until 1994 and concluded with a one-off TV reunion movie in 2002. Bochco spilled the news on The Rich Eisen Show. He was recently called by original L.A. Law writer Billy Finkelstein, who pitched him an idea for a reboot of the original series.

For years, Bochco resisted the idea of bringing the show back, but apparently an idea from former writer Bill Finkelstein got the old L.A. Law gears turning in his head once again.

Explaining how the reboot came about, Bochco said, “I called my friends at FOX, because they own the show”.

Bochco shared that the script will probably be done in October, and, if Fox picks it up, a pilot could be ready in the spring. Bochco also did not rule out the possibility of original series cast members playing (presumably) the same roles in a reboot series. “There are so many interesting legal aspects to our society today that simply weren’t in play then”.

He said he and Finkelstein sat down and “reconceptualized what L.A. Law would look like and be about 30 years later”. The more I thought about it, the more I thought, that is interesting.

An ensemble legal drama, the original L.A. Law revolves around the fictional Los Angeles law firm McKenzie, Brackman, Chaney and Kuzak.

While this reboot has only now gone into development, Fox has been considering such a project for more than a year. If it goes to series it would become the latest in a long line of such projects, including CBS’ long-running Hawaii Five-0 and the upcoming MacGyver.
